Hi Everyone,
did anyone set up a Ning.com site? I tried it just to see if I could do it. I was surprised at how easy it was. I am still working on it. I am the least techie of anyone, so I am having fun with it. If you go to motherhubbard@ning.com you can visit THE STARTING OVER SHOP. you are invited to join my neighborhood.
Pat
I've been working on my own ning space this weekend, and I concur with Jeff and Pat, it really is beautifully simple. Previously I've designed and coded my own website - CoachCreative.com - from scratch and know how long it took me! I've set up the basic structure for my ning space in just a few hours.
This includes a welcome box, forums, a box to link to subscribing to my ezine, top resources box, article of the week box, and a "latest articles" box in which I've simply added the code that EzineArticles give you to display the title and intro to your most recent x number of articles. It's just a couple of lines of code and saves having to manually type in text and create the links. If anyone wants to know how to set this up, let me know.
Anyway, to get the bare bones up and to have your own web presence can be done in about 10 minutes. So I'd encourage everyone who's been thinking of having a blog or a website but has been put off by the technical side to try out ning. It's simple yet so powerful.
Look out for the public launch of my space very soon!
You've been busy. I like the idea of putting a link to my ezine on my Ning space. You've given me some useful ideas.
I may well be back for technical expertise!
In the spirit of Jeff Herring I decided to "just get it going!" and have now launched my new site - CoachCreativeSpace.com - the interactive creative community space for people who are struggling to be as creative as they know they can be.
I'm still learning as I go, so it's not the finished product. I launched it to my ezine list today and have had good interest so far.
I'd like to invite you all to check out CoachCreativeSpace.com. All feedback appreciated.
I've put the title link and summary of a batch of my recent EzineArticles articles on there, as good quality, relevant content is what it's all about. I literally just cut and pasted a chunk of the source code from my profile page on EzineArticles.com, as the main articles are stored there anyway.
Dan, your space looks like a well established site - you must have spent hours putting it together- I guess using previously written content helps - and being passionate about what you do.
I think you could probably join Jeff in the workaholics corner!
Well done
Seriously though, it's like Jeff said, it really is pretty easy using Ning.
If you can type in boxes and choose colours and where you want the boxes on the page that's the basic skills you need. All the technical stuff is done by ning behind the scenes.
Adapting my header graphic from the one I have already on my main site took longer than anything else in setting up the site.
As I said too, you can get loads of content pretty easily by tapping into articles you already have stored on ezinearticles and other sites.
If anyone wants to know more about how to do this, I'd be happy to help.
